Zoom and Sandhour

How to connect it, use it, and disconnect it

Sandhour can put a real Zoom meeting on an event while you are still typing it. The meeting is made in your own Zoom account, by your own phone, and the link goes out with the invitation.

Before you start

Adding it

  1. Open Sandhour and go to Settings, then Accounts.
  2. Tap Zoom.
  3. Zoom's own sign in page opens. Sign in there. Sandhour never sees your password, because the page is Zoom's and not ours.
  4. Zoom asks whether to allow Sandhour to create meetings for you. Tap Allow.
  5. You land back in Sandhour, and the Zoom row now shows the email address of the account you signed in with.

Using it

  1. Start a new event.
  2. Open the Meeting row and choose Zoom.
  3. Add the people you are inviting, if you are inviting anyone.
  4. Save. Sandhour asks Zoom for the meeting, then writes the event with the join link on it.
  5. Open the event and the Join row takes you straight into the meeting.

The meeting is a real one in your Zoom account. It appears in your Zoom meetings list, and it can be started, edited or cancelled from Zoom like any other.

What Sandhour asks Zoom for

Two permissions, and both are used.

Sandhour does not read your meetings, your recordings, your contacts, your chat or your account settings. It calls exactly two Zoom addresses and no others.

Where the sign in is kept

In the iPhone Keychain, where iOS keeps your passwords, on that phone only. It is never written to a file, never sent anywhere but Zoom, and there is no server of ours for it to sit on.

Removing it

Either way works, and both do the same thing.

From Sandhour. Settings, Accounts, tap the Zoom row, and confirm signing out. The key is deleted from your iPhone in that moment.

From Zoom. Sign in at zoom.us, open the App Marketplace, go to Manage, then Added Apps, find Sandhour and choose Remove. Zoom tells Sandhour that you did, and Sandhour drops the key.

Either way, meetings you already made stay in your Zoom account and events you already made keep their links. New events simply have nowhere to put a Zoom meeting until you connect it again.
